Judi Hamilton (she likes "the unusual as
anyone can go to the chain restaurants")
Manila Center Diner:
1607 Center Street, 253-572-8061
The Manila Diner is average priced, a small family owned restaurant
serving authentic Filipino selections including Shaopao, Adobo and
Pancit. Combination meals are reasonable priced, around $5-6. The only
concern might be that the building is old and run down and isn't the
cleanest of places but the food is well worth it.
MSM Deli:
2220 6th Ave, 253-272-4814
MSM has awesome deli sandwiches for under $5. Half of one is too much
but a whole one leaves you wanting more. They have very good Gyro's
for those wanting Greek. It's also a small mini-mart.
It's Greek To Me:
1703 6th Ave, 253-272-1375
Fast Greek food at it's finest. Written up several times in the News
Tribune. Great Gyro's, Souvlaki, and the Baklava.....diabetic's
beware, it's 'killer'. Located near Tacoma General and just down the
street from Frisko Freeze.
Rock Pasta Brick Oven Pizza:
1920 S Jefferson, 253-272-1221
For the unusual pizza, not just pepperoni and cheese, this is the
place to go. It's downtown Tacoma, near the UW campus and a favorite
of students and business. My favorite is Sweet Emotions pizza, a
combination of carmelized onions and spinach with a white sauce. Micro
brewery on the premises. Relaxed atmosphere.
Thanks Judi! That makes me hungry just
reading about those places. Did she have to mention
Frisko Freeze? Judi, perhaps we'll see you
at one of these places! Thanks again! |
Cuppy Long Walker
Mimi's: 11126 Gravelly Lake Dr.,
253-588-8989
Mimi's is a wonderfully special Italian Bistro on the far side of
the old clover park shops. Great food and great atmosphere.
Applebee's is a new addition to Lakewood's
Towne Centre( the old Villa Plaza).
La Palma
La Palma is our Lakewood Towne Centres mexican food. It's been
in the Villa forever and just moved across the property.
Happy Teriyaki is on 100th across from
where McDonald's was and is in Lakewood. Good food and service.
Thanks Cuppy! Wow! Those places all
sound great! |

The Fish House Cafe: 1814
Martin Luther King Jr. Way, 253-383-7144
This restaurant is near S 19th St. on MLK. Bad neighborhood,
so it's best to go during the day for lunch. Actually on the
west corner is a gas station, so it's just past that. The best
Fish 'n Chips I've ever had.
Yet another great recommendation! This
may not be "fine dining", but it is absolutely a "must" try for
September! Thanks, Connie!
There is one more restaurant that I love.
It's
The Beach House:
13802 Purdy Dr. NW, Gig Harbor,
253-858-9900 ... It's the old Pearl's By The Sea by the
Purdy bridge. And it is truly wonderful. A little costly, but
great food and a great wine selection. Of course, people would
have to contend with bridge traffic, but it's a special place to
go.
Thank you Connie! Yes, this does sound
special. We need to check this one out too!
