Our First Mailing
This is our first publication (mailing) from our e-mail tool.
Besides the colors, rich text and graphics, the first thing you may
notice is that you cannot view the list of other recipients. We care a great deal about everyone's privacy, so having an "invisible" mailing list is critical. The mailing
list for this electronic newsletter is strictly of those individuals who have given us permission to be added to
the list. This keeps it from becoming unwanted "spam."
From our end, the
e-mail tool keeps track of lots of statistics, including who has read the
mailings. We'll also know if the e-mail bounces back. If it does, we'll take
some action to validate or correct the e-mail address.
We expect to have:
-
"Topical Columns" written by several individuals.
For example, missing classmates who have been found.
-
Submitted stories from classmates about their
reunions after the Sep. '05 Reunion at the Brickyard.
-
Thank yous.
-
Links back to specific pages (existing or new) on
our website, for example the
Guest Book.
-
Upcoming events that might be of interest.
-
Requests of different kinds.
-
Announcements.
-
Pictures
The overall intent is to keep people from becoming "missing" again, by engaging them with this communication and our website. Way too much effort went into the finding of people last
year to just let them become missing again.
Let's stay in touch!

Most Wanted
We're still searching for classmates we couldn't find in 2005. If you go to www.cloverpark65.com/most_wanted.htm you'll see who's missing and who's recently been found. Please let us know if you know someone we couldn't find. Tell that person about our website and let them know there's a means to register with us.

Lakewood Art Task Force by Carmen Sterba
My First
Meeting
Claudia
Thomas,
the
mayor of
Lakewood,
called
the
meeting
to
order.
In the
Tacoma
News
Tribune
have
been
some
articles
and
letters
to the
editor
about
making a
cultural
center
at the
closed
Lakewood
Theater.
In early
May,
there
was an
announcement
of a
meeting
at the
Lakewood
City
Hall
which
concerned
the
theater,
so I
decided
to
attend.
On May
8th,
Mayor
Claudia
Thomas
called
the
meeting
of the
Art Task
Force to
order.
We were
informed
that it
is not
possible
for the
City of
Lakewood
to buy
the
Lakewood
Theater,
but that
there
was
interest
in
buying
the now
empty
Lake
City
Elementary
School
to
establish
a school
of arts
for
Lakewood.
There
was
quite an
animated
discussion
about
how this
could be
a
place especially
for
children
to
attend
an after
school
and the
possibility
of
intergenerational
programs,
too.
They
talked
of
having
local
artists
teach
classes
and show
their
work.
A
statement
of
purpose
for
creating
The
Lakewood
Arts
Commission
was read
and
considered.
They
also
talked
of the
revival
of the
Art
Festival
at the
Lakewood
Towne
Center
(the
former
Villa
Plaza)
in June.
In
addition,
there
was a
discussion
about
making
Lakewood
a center
for art.
Furthermore,
this was
considered
a way to
attract
people
to
Lakewood
and
improve
its
image.
My
Second
Meeting
Mayor
Claudia
Thomas
opened
the
meeting.
On June
12th,
the Art
Task
Force
announced
that
Lake
City
Elementary
would be
temporarily
used for
the
student
body of
Lakeview
Elementary
for one
year
while
Lakeview
is being
rebuilt.
Yet
there
was also
talk of
Lake
City as
the
potential
site of
an
alternative
school
in the
future.
The idea
of also
having
an after
school
arts
school
was
discussed
as well.
The
Statement
of
Purpose
for The
Lakewood
Arts
Commission
was
discussed
and
slightly
modified.
A flyer
on the
'Starbucks
Park
Benches
at
Bumbershoot'
was
passed
out and
it
encourages
grassroots
park
associations
to
submit
bench
proposals.
Any
money
raised
from the
auction
of the
benches
will go
back to
those
organizations.
Next, an
upcoming
Art
Summit
was
mentioned
and then
the
controversial
art
created
for the
Sound
Transit
was
discussed.
The art
that had
been
commissioned
for the
Lakewood
Sound
Transit
station
was
considered
too
sensual
by many
Lakewood
residents.
It turns
out that
the
artist
has been
given a
second
chance
to
create
something
to
represent
Lakewood
as a
community.
Other
matters
under
discussion
were on
the
gateway
for the
Lakewood
Walmart
(which
is in
the
process
of being
built).
There
was
confusion
on
whether
the
architect
commissioned
by
Lakewood
or a
Walmart
architect
would be
chosen
for the
final
design.
