Downtown Tacoma looking north on Broadway at intersection of 9th Street and Saint Helens Avenue in 1948.  John Hamrick's Music Box theatre (originally opened in 1890 as the Tacoma Theatre) on the left and Roxy (Pantages) Theatre on the right.  Movie playing at the Music Box is "Homecoming" with Clark Gable and Lana Turner.  Movie playing at the Roxy is "The Miracle of the Bells" with Fred MacMurray and Frank Sinatra.  Winthrop Hotel is beyond the Roxy.  The uniquely-shaped Grant Hotel (Bostwick Block) is in the center.  Medical Arts Building rises above and behind Music Box Theatre.  Rialto Theatre was around the corner to the left up the hill on 9th Street.  On May 1st 1963, there was a fire at the Music Box Theatre which destroyed most of the building.
